Happy #moonbearmonday!

Our horticulture teams put a lot of thought into which items to place in the bears’ enclosures.

Anything in there needs to be safe for the bears to play with – and incredibly durable to make it through a day of moon bear play.

Each piece also has numerous purposes. Climbing frames, for example, allow the bears to express their natural climbing instincts, but also allows them to spend time relatively alone, do some exercise, or even just enjoy the view.

But it doesn’t matter how much thought the team puts in to an item – the bears will almost always find another use for it. When we put in bicycle tyres for pulling and stretching – the bears end up wearing them like jewellery.

Yet Xin Xin amazed us all with her recent moment of inspiration as she explored her new enclosure at our Vietnam sanctuary. While the horticulture team thought they’d made the bears a handy ladder – Xin Xin had other ideas. She knew that this was either a clever window or a fresh new seating design.
