On a perfect Vietnam spring day Maggie Q visited Animals Asia's Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre alongside fellow-actor fiancé Dylan McDermott - and was captivated by their bears enjoying the sun after northern Vietnam's cool winter.
Maggie, whose mother is Vietnamese, has been an ambassador for the centre since 2009 when she officially declared it open. She has continued to be a great friend of the campaign to end bear bile farming.
She and Dylan spent time snapping pictures of all the bears - she was especially taken with sun bear cub Layla who has recently been integrated with her new friend Sassy. Maggie also caught up with her namesake bear - named in her honour.
Finally Maggie also gave her own bear hug to Animals Asia Vietnam Director Tuan Bendixsen back at the sanctuary after overseeing two recent rescues for three moon bears from Ben Tre in Vietnam's South and sun bear cub Goldie from Dien Bien in the North.
Tuan said:
"Maggie could not have chosen a better day and her presence lit up the sanctuary. As a vegan she continues to fight hard for animal rights and we know that the bears and the campaign to end bear bile farming is very close to her heart. Her schedule in Vietnam was hectic but we're delighted she could come and visit us. The centre continues to go from strength to strength and she was amazed at its progress. She was also delighted to hear that the demand for bear bile is dropping in Vietnam and the industry is showing signs that it can be ended and progress is being made."
Maggie visited Vietnam as a guest of Wild Aid.
