#Moonbearmonday: Caz’s Garden Party for One

03 November 2014

Caz enjoys her picnic at VBRC 1

Happy #moonbearmonday!

She may be eating out in the open but Caz's table manners mean this is more royal garden party than teddy bear's picnic.

Not for her the shovelling down of veggies like some of her less posh pals. Petite Caz knows how to behave at the dinner table. Or even the dinner tyre – as in this case.

She may be the smallest bear in the sanctuary – averaging just 55 kilos – but she's not short on class despite a traumatic past.

Caz arrived at our Vietnam sanctuary back in 2011. She was rescued along with two other bears being kept in tiny cages in Nam Dinh province, about 100 kilometres south of the capital, Hanoi.

Caz and her best pal Luna love to forage

Staff believe that Caz's stunted and misshapen legs are most likely due to a combination of poor nutrition while growing up on a bear bile farm, and being kept in severely cramped conditions.

But despite her disability, Caz is still brave and curious – a fact proven by her quick adaptation to her new enclosure. She and best pal Luna love to forage – like ladies on a shopping trip.

Caz, you're a class act!

Have a great #moonbearmonday everyone.
