Prestigious web design site Awwwards.com has named Microsoft’s interactive website Exploring Moon Bears Site of the Day, putting it in the running for Site of the Year.

The extra recognition given to the site will ensure that both its modern design and its important message will be seen by thousands more including bloggers, designers, agencies and programmers.

The site was designed for Animals Asia after staff from design firm Logic Design were moved by a trip to Animals Asia’s sanctuary in Chengdu, China where 285 bears have been rescued from China’s bear bile industry.

The innovative site was previously given an Honourable Mention by Awwards.com before being named Site of the Day on March 25. The recognition will see the site included in Awwards annual book “The best 365 websites around the world” – a bible for design/tech gurus – and invited to their annual award ceremony.

This year’s prize-giving ceremony was a glitzy bash held in Paris, with next year’s locations still a closely guarded secret.

Speaking earlier this year following the launch of the site, Animals Asia founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE said:

“Jasper and the moon bears touched the collective hearts of Microsoft and now thanks to their incredible creativity and hard work they’ve reached millions more people across the world. We can’t thank Microsoft enough for their help.  We are truly inspired by their contribution and commitment to ending bear bile farming.”
