Rescued bears go wild

Animals Asia has rescued more than 500 bears from bear bile farms in China and Vietnam. Once rescued their rehabilitation begins in semi-natural enclosures designed to encourage natural behaviours. For us, one of the greatest indicators of the bears welfare needs being met, is to see them “going wild” just as nature intended.

The Bear in the Picture: Jasper

This picture was taken in 2000 at Animals Asia’s Chengdu sanctuary. Moon bear Jasper had just been transported from a Chinese bear bile farm where he was kept flat on his back in a crush cage. By the time Jasper reached Animals Asia founder and CEO Jill Robinson, he had been caged for 15 years.
