Thuy Hoang
Sanctuary Manager - Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre II, Bach Ma
Thuy Hoang, originally from the vibrant landscapes of South Vietnam, has nurtured a deep love for wildlife since childhood. She graduated in 2014 with a professional diploma in Veterinary Medicine and spent several years working with various wildlife NGOs, caring for primates and carnivores. This path eventually led her to the role of Sanctuary Manager at Bach Ma Bear Rescue Centre, the second bear sanctuary under the Animals Asia Foundation in Vietnam. Here, Thuy is on a heartfelt mission: to end bear bile farming in her homeland.
Having relocated from the south to Bach Ma with her beloved cat and dog, Thuy now leads a close-knit team of 22 individuals, which will grow to over 100 as the sanctuary develops. She brings together expertise in animal husbandry, veterinary care, administration, education, facility development, and security. Together, they are creating a sanctuary that offers a safe haven for bears rescued from the cruelty of bile extraction and are dedicated to forging a brighter future where humanity’s relationship with wildlife is rooted in empathy and respect.
"Bears are such gentle creatures", says Thuy, "and they deserve a life free from suffering. Our mission is to ensure they find peace and happiness here with us."
