Last Friday, we received some shocking news. Animals Asia was handed an official eviction notice from the Ministry of Defence stating that our bear sanctuary, our home for the bears, had to leave Tam Dao National Park.

Following on from the conference in Dalian, it is noteworthy to acknowledge the collaboration between ourselves and many other welfare groups with the authorities across China over the past few years, which have led to significant progress for dogs and cats across the country.
What a difference in nearly three decades........ when I first came to Asia in 1985, there was one registered animal welfare group in China - and now there are close to one hundred organisations and too many government officials and departments to mention who are working side by side in addressing the problems and solutions of sharing our lives with wild, domestic and endangered species.

Just recently we were lucky enough to host Asia singer, actress, celebrity, and all round wonderful woman, Karen Mok on yet another visit to our bear sanctuary in Chengdu.
We had such a nice treat at our bear sanctuary in Chengdu recently when Ed Young and his daughter Ananda stayed with us on site.
Some pictures are just too good to file away - and this most beautiful photo of glorious Banjo, taken recently by our very own Star in Chengdu, was just too perfect not to share.
Oh how pea green am I to have missed a truly phenomenal event recently in the UK. Our wonderful supporter Richard Symonds who, together with Suzie Marsh, held "Moonstruck" in London earlier this year exhibiting the most amazing prints and sculptures of our beautiful bears – and donating 50 per cent of the proceeds to Animals Asia.
Just recently, we heard from Gill and Fiona in our UK office, together with Linda of our Southampton Support group, that this year's trek up Mount Snowdon was once again hugely challenging, but hugely spectacular in results for the bears, dogs and cats of Asia.
Just last week, the brave film crew who spent two years filming undercover in six provinces of China to the terror and brutality of bear farms across the country, won a major prize at a film festival in Ya'an. Elsa, Chen Yuan Zong and Tu Qiao received the top award for "Best Educational Value" for their film “Moon Bear”, at the Fifth China Ya’an International Panda, Animals and Nature Film Week.

Jill founded Animals Asia in 1998, after an encounter with a caged bear on a farm in China changed her life forever. She now heads a team of over 300 enthusiastic staff and divides her time between our bear rescue centres in China and Vietnam and our Hong Kong head office. She travels extensively to participate in conferences and speak at fundraising events.
