Apparently this is the first time a competition like this has been held in Vietnam and was organised by the newly formed Love Animals Group. They began just a year ago, but already have 4,000 associate members and are responsible for rescuing and rehoming abandoned and stray dogs and cats in Ho Chi Minh City. So far, 300 dogs and cats have been helped — and the group has begun a free neutering programme for pets, encouraging people not to breed their companion animals.
For a group whose members all have day jobs, this is truly phenomenal progress and, as Tuan says, undoubtedly the start of a movement we have come to see in China where local animal lovers are standing up and taking charge of the problems themselves.
