Following Animals Asia's story on Gold the elephant calf last week – a short documentary of our work with elephants in Vietnam has been released.
Gold was found stuck in a well on 28 March 2016 and was taken to the Elephant Conservation Centre (ECC) about 30km away in Buon Don district. Since then, a team of elephant welfare professionals organised by Animals Asia have been overseeing his survival – and waiting for the opportunity to reunite him with his herd.
The film – with footage shot by the animal welfare professional in charge of the efforts on reintroduction, Jake Veasey – shows the recent attempt to return Gold to the wild. Unfortunately, this attempt was not a success, but the team was able to learn a lot from his close encounter with the herd.
Among the goals of the ECC facility is ensuring the welfare of the elephants receives the high priority it deserves, and that the facility can help establish social groups for rescued elephants.
