Shadow Trade - Official Trailer from Environment Films on Vimeo
A documentary into the dog meat trade in South East Asia hopes to emulate the success of movies such as “Blackfish” and “The Cove” by highlighting the illegality and cruelty stretching from Bangkok to Hanoi.
Following investigative journalist John Keeble as he goes on the trail of Bangkok's illegal dog meat, viewers are brought face to face with eye witnesses, high ranking officials and even the smugglers themselves as we are taken on a journey stretching for 1,000 km all the way to Vietnam's capital, Hanoi.
Produced by Environment Films and filmed over 18 months in Vietnam and Thailand, “Shadow Trade” was made possible by the sponsorship and the support of Animals Asia as well the charities which make up the Asian Canine Protection Alliance (ACPA).
Animals Asia founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE said:
“This movie will be absolutely essential viewing for animal lovers everywhere. Like John Keeble and the exceptionally brave film crew who put themselves in danger to bring us the truth, we can't turn away – there are just too many animals suffering needlessly.
“We have to hope that by exposing the immoral and illegal trade to a mass audience, this cruelty will be stopped. The majority of people abhor animal cruelty in all its forms and few mediums can bring a message to a larger audience than cinema.”
“Shadow Trade” was filmed in 2014 and is now available to view online in the UK and the USA. Broadcasting rights for other regions are on-going.
