As with many great events, Banquet for the Bears took many months of planning by a small group of dedicated people giving freely of their time and talents but we think the result was well worth it.  On Wednesday 16 July, just over 100 people braved the cold at Perth City Farm to hear Jill Robinson speak and savour the incredible vegetarian banquet prepared by our favourite chef and Animals Asia Ambassador, Simon Bryant.

 A spicy macadamia and coconut laksa, followed by sweet potato, peanut and mandarin curry and three other delicious mains, soon had everyone warmed up and if the chilli didn’t have the desired effect of keeping out the cold, seeing Jill’s presentation on the newest members of the Animals Asia family, the 130 bears at the Nanning bear farm, certainly did.

Special thanks to chef Sophie Budd of Taste Budds Cooking School (link to www.tastebudds.co) for assisting Simon in the kitchen and to our wine sponsors - Fox Creek Wines, Jacob’s Creek, Ballycroft, Serafino Wine and Yelland & Papps - who donated multiple cases of award winning wine to accompany the meal.

As a result of a wonderful array of silent and live auction prizes, plus a raffle, over $13,000 was raised on the night and Animals Asia would like to extend a bear sized thank you to everyone who donated goods and services to make the event possible.  Of course none of this would have happened without our incredible WA Support Group who pulled it all together including Anne Ockwell, Elizabeth Hacker, Cheryl Barnes, Siegfried & Dale Pleml, Jill Barton, Keith Shepherd, Kimese Spencer, Alice Rae, Zane Alexander and Lynley Black.

All our WA Supporters are invited to a very special dinner on Wednesday 16th July 2014 to honour Animals Asia Founder, Jill Robinson. The meal will be a vegetarian Asian feast prepared by our favourite chef, Simon Bryant, with help from the lovely Sophie Budd of Taste Budds Cooking Studio.
